Which GP practice is best for you?

Tell us your area and what matters to you. We show the area’s practices in the order that suits you, grouped by how they compare with England, and explain why.

Your council area, for example Leeds or Camden. Not sure? Search by postcode: every practice page names its area.

Step 2 of 2. What matters to you?

Tap what matters most. The star marks what matters most of all. If you pick nothing, we order by the Practice score.

Ready-made choice

  • For you if you need care often, for example with a long-term condition. Seeing the same GP or nurse weighs the most, and the wait counts too. Under each practice you also see how many patients have a professional they prefer, whether they knew the next step, and how soon routine appointments were booked.

GP practices in Reading

18 practices, in groups by their label, which comes from the Practice score and its margin of error, never from your choices. Within each group, the practice that fits the Practice score best comes first. There are no places: practices next to each other are often within each other’s margin of error.

Other practices in Reading

These have no label: some have too few survey answers to be rated, some are for one group of patients, and for others the margin of error does not support either label. They are listed A to Z, not by your choices. Each practice’s page has its figures.

Questions and answers

How do you put the practices in order?

You pick what matters to you, and we order the practices in your area by how their patients answered the GP Patient Survey questions on those things. A star counts twice. If you pick nothing, we order by the Practice score. The order is inside groups: practices clearly above the England average first, then practices that cannot be told apart from it, then the rest from A to Z.

Why are there no places or rank numbers?

Every survey figure has a margin of error, and practices next to each other in the list can often not be told apart. The order helps you find practices worth a closer look; the label says what the figures can support.

What if a practice has no figure for something I picked?

It is ordered on the things it has figures for, so a missing figure never counts against it. A practice with no figure for any of your choices comes last in its group. Too few answers to a question also means no figure.

Do my choices change a practice’s label?

No. The label comes from the Practice score and its margin of error, the same as on the practice’s own page. Your choices only change the order inside each group.

Where do the figures come from?

The Practice score comes from the 2026 GP Patient Survey and NHS appointment and phone data. The questions you pick come from the 2026 GP Patient Survey, run by Ipsos for NHS England, and how soon routine appointments were booked from NHS England’s Appointments in General Practice. Each practice page shows every figure with its source.
