Seeing the same GP

Seeing the same GP in Newcastle-under-Lyme 2026

Seeing the same GP or nurse over time is one of the best documented signs of good primary care. Here you see the share of patients with a preferred healthcare professional who see or speak to them always, almost always or a lot of the time, per GP practice in Newcastle-under-Lyme (2026 GP Patient Survey), with the number of answers for each. The cards are ordered by the share; on an equal share the Practice Grade decides, and when both are exactly equal the practices share a place.

In Newcastle-under-Lyme, 11 of 17 practices had enough answers to be shown. The share who see their preferred professional runs from 23.5% to 72.5%, with 45.0% in the middle, from 485 answers in all.

Share who see their preferred professional, highest first

The figure is a survey answer, not a register count. It is asked only of patients who have a preferred professional, so it rests on fewer answers than the overall question, and its margin of error is wider; the practice page shows it. A practice with many older patients or patients with long-term conditions may have a higher share for that reason. Read it as a fact to ask about, not a verdict. 6 practices are left out because too few patients answered the question, or because they serve one group only.

What the figure means, source and method

Seeing the same GP here means question 7 of the 2026 GP Patient Survey: of the patients who have a GP or other healthcare professional they prefer to see or speak to, the share who do so always, almost always or a lot of the time. It says how often patients get the person they prefer, not whether they are registered with a named GP.

  • A survey, not a count. Ipsos weights the answers and publishes each share with its margin of error and number of answers; we show a share only with at least the same number of answers as the Practice Grade needs.
  • Who the patients are matters. Practices with many older patients or patients with long-term conditions often have more patients with a preferred professional.
  • Not part of the Practice Grade. The share is shown as a fact beside the grade. The grade in the cards above rests as always on question 32 and NHS England’s appointment and phone data.
