Fact box: GP practices in Exeter

GP practices in Exeter: patient survey and appointments
Exeter has 16 open GP practices, and all of them had enough answers in the 2026 GP Patient Survey to be rated.
The 16 rated practices had 1,616 answers between them to the survey’s question on overall experience.
The Practice score weighs two NHS measures: the share of patients who describe their practice as good (70%) and the share of appointments that take place within two weeks of booking (30%). For Exeter as a whole, with every rated practice counting equally, it is 84.7, against 80.0 for England (95% interval 81.9 to 86.1). That is clearly above the England average. On average, practices there are 4.7 points above the England average (95% interval: 1.9 to 6.1 points above).
Of the 16 rated practices, 5 are clearly above the England average, which needs the whole of a practice’s margin of error to lie above it.

The rating measures patients’ experience and how soon appointments take place, not the quality of clinical care. NHS England publishes the appointment data as official statistics in development.
